Here come the judge! ... for Sussex school's history competition

Oriel High School's Subject Leader for History and Government & Politics is the dynamic and innovative Milan Jayasuriya, a University of Sussex graduate who's retained his links with its History department. The Secret WW2 Learning Network's Martyn Cox was flattered and honoured to have been invited to join the university's Dr Chris Warne and Dr David Geiringer as a judge of Oriel's annual history competition.

Milan masterminded the entire initiative which was professionally run and highly impressive, and the judges thoroughly enjoyed their day amongst so many young people with such enthusiasm for history. Many congratulations to all evertone involved and especially the competitors and winners; and we hope to consolidate this relationship by getting even more involved with next year's Oriel History Day.

The 2016 winners were Lara Phillips (Year 7), Dan Clark (Year 8), Ethan Chiu (Year 9) and Rachel and Rebecca Cole (Overall Winner); and these photos include Dan Clark next to his display, and Lara Phillips with the judges. Special thanks must also go to the Oriel student Tanyth Laing whose behind-the-scenes efforts were responsible for Martyn and Chris taking part.
